Our trip to Cancun will always be something I remember. Mainly because it was my first trip out of the United States! It never would have happened without my amazing husband and his wonderful family. I am truly blessed. This trip was to celebrate Nate’s mom’s birthday, in addition to being used as an escape from reality. Normally on vacations, my activities tend to be planned for the duration of the trip. But after this vacation, I feel it is highly important to take a trip at least once a year to somewhere where you can truly just relax and let your body and mind feel free. Now let’s talk about Cancun!!
Where We Stayed
Our resort was ammmmazing to say the least! We stayed at the Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun Resort. It was so gorgeous and I could go on and on about all of the staff! The rooms were very calming and nicely decorated. We had a room on the third floor facing the tropical view which I ended up being very grateful for because you have complete privacy. Everywhere you went someone from the staff was saying hello and checking to see if you needed anything. We booked our trip through Apple Vacations.
I highly recommend joining the Preferred Club. The Preferred lounge was a great place to cool off and to enjoy nice appetizers, drinks and hang out with Sergio. Also, by joining the club you get to use the preferred pool. The preferred pool was quiet, had lounge rafts, and was more relaxing while the other pool had more activities going on around it with party music and a lot more people. We always started the day off relaxing at the preferred pool and then we would make our way to the “party” pool or beach. At the preferred pool, they have cabanas that you can use, so long as you reserve them the day before. I highly recommend doing so. Since the preferred pool is more secluded, the breeze is not always so strong and the water was very warm. Next time, I would bring a small fan to plug into the cabana. Also, you’re going to want the chance to meet Misael, Jose, and Alberto because they will take great care of you!
In the afternoons, we would hang out at the main pool or on the beach close to the SandBar. The main pool has a swim up bar and a lot of lounge chairs outside and inside the water. There were
so many activities to do at the resort, such as water aerobics, water volleyball, or games being led by the entertainment staff. Shout out to Carlos and Rufegio for serving drinks extremely fast at the swim up bar!
Let’s talk about the beach situation. If you are planning a trip solely based on how the ocean view looks, then this may not be the place for you. The coral reef is dying farther out in the gulf; causing tons of seaweed to wash ashore throughout most of the day. The resort did have staff out there always cleaning it up, but unfortunately it was a losing battle. The beach itself was kept very clean and white, but the water was a little darker due to the seaweed situation. However, if you’re like me and happy to see any ocean and enjoy a nice fun vacation, then this is still definitely the spot to visit. Even with the seaweed, this resort was probably one of the prettiest places I have visited. I took many naps on the beach in their lounge chairs, and enjoyed swinging on the swings while sitting at the Sand Bar. Be sure to say hi to Cezar and Antonio while visiting the Sand Bar because they are simply the world’s greatest humans! Cezar was so funny and will most likely remember your name throughout your entire stay. Every time we passed by he would yell out our names.
The food all around was outstanding!!! For dinner you get to enjoy appetizers, soups/salads, main course, and dessert. I enjoyed all of the restaurants that we went to, but I strongly suggest you try the onion soup at Paramour! My personal favorite restaurants were Paramour and Fresco.
You must go to the shows because they are extremely funny! One show had a comedian actually get inside a giant balloon. It had our group cracking up and will definitely be something I remember. The other two shows I enjoyed involved a couple’s competition and guy’s competition. I loved how involved all of the participants got. The games helped everyone to let loose and made the shows super funny. Maybe next time, I’ll volunteer to participate… ehh maybe lol. We also had fun at the nightclub throughout the trip. They offered plenty of activities throughout the day such as sail boating, paddle boarding, making bracelets, Zumba, water aerobics, tennis, sand/water volleyball and the spa. You must go and try the hydro spa session at least once on your stay! But while you are in the vapor sauna remember to keep your mouth and eyes closed, sit back, and just relax. When you walk in, the steam hits you like a Vicks Vapor Rub wall, but trust me it will be well worth it.
One thing I cannot stress enough is to bring loose fitting and comfortable outfits for dinner If you are like me and want to get the most out of the trip by indulging in all the included foods and drinks, then you will be extremely bloated by day 2. Anything tight around the stomach will be extremely uncomfortable. Trust me.
Bring cover ups that completely cover you for breakfast. Most restaurants will not allow you to wear a swimsuit while eating.
Try new things like paddle boarding and kayaking. Paddle boarding in the ocean was so much fun and is really pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
Ask for robes and slippers because they only give them to you upon request. They will also bring you extra snacks or drinks to your room if you ask or leave a note to the maid service.
Please, remember to bring medicine such as Tylenol, Pepto Bismol, Gas-X… etc. I highly recommend bringing at least 2 pairs of sandals or flip flops because if you end up like me one will break while walking in the sand and you will need a back-up for the rest of the week.
DO NOT forget to pack sunscreen. The rooms supply shower and shaving products but do not have complimentary sunscreen! If you do forget, they have shops to get things you absolutely need, but it can be a bit pricey.
Lastly, I would suggest bringing cash with you, for multiple reasons including emergency purchases, tipping the incredible staff, or buying some cool souvenirs from the shops or vendors around the resort. We were there for 7 days and $200 was plenty for Nate and I.
Thank you, Now Sapphire staff, for the amazing trip. I’ll forever remember it.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Please feel free to ask any questions about the adventure. I will try to get back to you in a timely manner! I hope you all have an amazing day!
Much Love Reba
